Community Development

The COR Community Development Corporation (COR CDC), a non-profit 501c3 Corporation was formed in 2001 to raise funds for community development, financial literacy training, business training, gang intervention and prevention programs, substance abuse recovery and intervention, college scholarships, and health programs.

COR CDC has raised thousands of dollars under the leadership of Rev. Mark and Hermia Whitlock, Esq., Keith Murray, Ron Guyer, Mark Reed, Scott Chaplin, Esq., Kevin O’Grady, Ph.D., Ken Werner, Esq., and David Cartwright, Esq.

COR CDC has been funded by Wachovia Bank, Channel 7 News, OC Sherriff’s Department, All State Insurance, Southern CA Edison Corporation, Ahmanson Foundation, PCV/Murcor Corporation, and individual donors.

COR has trained the faith based and community based organizations on prisoner reentry, substance abuse programs for low to moderate income people, and e-commerce. We were recently funded to provide business seminars, small business technical assistance, and business loan packaging. COR has partnered with Kaiser Hospital for prostate screening and substance abuse training for at-risk minorities. The COR Scholarship fund has raised over one hundred thousand dollars for minority students.

The COR CDC is located within the COR Community Center. The Center was inspired by the late Ronald Alexander, executive with All State Insurance. Designed and developed by Karla Guyer, the Center houses COR’s educational, business, health, and social programs, board meetings, and administrative offices.

COR provides free meeting space for community based organizations. Some of the organizations include the NAACP, the 100 Black Men of Orange County, 100 Black Women of Orange County, and the Oden Commission.

COR CDC is part of the family of corporations of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church (COR Church). COR Church is the oldest and largest black congregation in South Orange County. It presently includes over 1800 multi-racial members and over forty ministries serving 32 cities in Orange County and Los Angeles County.

COR CDC has been recognized by the elected officials, the media, and community leaders for its multiple community programs. It is our goal to make a positive difference in all communities. We are guided by the one whom inspires us to achieve the best life offers.

Rev. Mark Whitlock is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the COR CDC and pastor of COR Church. Mark Whitlock is a former banker and executive director of FAME Renaissance. FAME Renaissance received funding from the Federal, State, and local government and private foundations. Rev. Whitlock teaches at USC and sits on several boards to include the Harvard University Summer Leadership Institute.
